It seems like Chris Jericho is inching closer to his rumored WWE return. Amid heavy speculation of his AEW contract expiring by the end of this year, ‘The Demo God’ is expected to jump ship. While he hasn’t reportedly signed with WWE yet, the 55-year-old is already hinting as if he’s back with the company.
Quite recently, ‘Y2J’ posted a titantron video of his iconic WWE theme song, Break The Walls Down, on TikTok. It included a countdown at the beginning, which has sparked speculation on the internet suggesting that Jericho might be teasing his return at the Royal Rumble.
Since the said PLE is going overseas for the first time since its inception, WWE would be looking to make it an overwhelming success.

But if Jericho were to come back, there’s a perfect occasion to do it just a week before the Royal Rumble. WWE will be running the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, on January 24 for Saturday Night’s Main Event and also the night prior to that for SmackDown. It’d be so tempting for the company to resurrect Jericho on WWE programming in his home turf.

However, a Royal Rumble surprise entry could prevail in this case if WWE gets him signed to a contract by then. Speaking of Jericho’s AEW situation, he hasn’t appeared on TV since April. The company president and CEO, Tony Khan, was recently asked about his working relationship with ‘Y2J’ by Ariel Helwani. Khan expressed his gratitude for the inaugural AEW Champion over his role as one of the founding members of the organization.
The Jacksonville Jaguars executive also noted that he’d love to have Jericho back in AEW but said he couldn’t comment on his contractual status with them. Khan alluded to the ‘Lionheart’ negotiating a less taxing work schedule with AEW in his response to Jericho’s prolonged absence from the programming.
What other signs suggest that Chris Jericho could be WWE-bound?
The fans will definitely see Chris Jericho continue wrestling in 2026. The veteran star has himself confirmed in an interview with Tim Weisberg that he’s not done. Even though he didn’t name a destination, Jericho affirmed that the fans will see him in a wrestling ring somewhere in the new year.

The Canuck is also keeping a close eye on John Cena‘s last match. As is known, Gunther will oppose ‘The Cenation Leader’ in his last-ever WWE match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. ‘The Ring General’ has vowed to make Cena tap out, henceforth proving to the world that the 17-time world champion will give up. That makes one wonder if Cena has ever tapped out in his illustrious career.

Indeed, he has. ‘The Franchise Player’ has been made to submit by Kurt Angle on a couple of occasions, by Chris Benoit once, and also by Chris Jericho. The 9-time Intercontinental Champion posted a graphic of that stat on his Instagram Stories. Speaking of Jericho’s physical condition, he recently came up with a jacked physique on his 55th birthday.

The fans were stunned to see his transformation and concluded that he’s definitely prepping for a return to WWE. Last month, it was reported that WWE has offered Jericho a retirement storyline, and those within the company said that’s what they’d be interested in for ‘Y2J’ to do if he were to come on board. Only time will tell how everything pans out.
