Chris Jericho‘s name has remained a hot topic for the past few months. But before getting into it, ‘Y2J’ turned 55 yesterday. ‘The Demo God’ has caught everyone off guard with his latest upper body transformation, as seen in the following picture. Some fans on X even posted a before vs. now comparison of him to provide a better context of the hard yards he has put in.

The 9-time Intercontinental Champion has tightened up his core to come up with a ripped physique. It has the netizens in shock, with many of them expressing utter delight at seeing Jericho back in shape. ‘The Lionheart’ has continued to hog the limelight due to his ongoing AEW status. It’s believed that his contract with the Tony Khan-led promotion is set to expire by the end of this year.

Back in October 2022, Jericho signed a three-year extension with AEW. It also enabled the veteran wrestler to diversify his roles in the company, being tapped in as a producer and creative advisor. WWE was hopeful of his return at some point in 2024 until Jericho hadn’t re-signed with the Jacksonville-based promotion. Speaking of the last time he was seen on AEW programming, it was April. And it might stay that way.

As things stand, there are a number of companies nationally and internationally that have interest in bringing Jericho on board, per Fightful. In August, it was noted by WrestleVotes that those within WWE were expecting a deal between them and Jericho to be completed once he’s legally able to sign elsewhere. It has already been stressed enough that his AEW contract is winding down, and the odds suggest he’s unlikely to stay there.

Matt Hardy comments on Chris Jericho’s expected return to WWE

The prospect of Chris Jericho returning to WWE at the onset of 2026 might not be overwhelmingly exciting for every wrestling fan, but it’s certainly worth giving a watch. One of Jericho’s longtime wrestling buddies in Matt Hardy also thinks likewise. The TNA star weighed in on Y2J’s current situation on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast.

Hardy started off by showing some love to the 55-year-old and praising Jericho’s contributions to the pro wrestling business. Speaking on his AEW tenure, Hardy noted that their fanbase has already had its share of ‘The Demo God’ in many ways. ‘The Sensei of Mattitude’ emphasized that the lead vocalist of Fozzy has pretty much done everything he could in Tony Khan’s promotion.

Hardy went on to elaborate that ‘Y2J’ has always been smart when it comes to knowing the right time to walk away and start over to keep the fans invested in him. It brought Hardy to the conclusion that Jericho’s WWE return, especially as a surprise at the Royal Rumble, would be massive.

The one-half of The Hardy Boyz even broached the possibility of Jericho taking a page out of John Cena‘s playbook and embarking on a retirement tour of his own when the time is right.

I feel like if he came back to WWE, it’d be a huge moment, especially in a Royal Rumble, whatever, wherever that appearance would be, it would be massive. And then I feel like there would be a good a good run he could do, even if it is his last run and he retires at the end of it, like Cena did.

Speaking of Cena for a moment, he recently paid homage to ‘Y2J’ by using his Walls of Jericho submission maneuver during his Crown Jewel match against AJ Styles. It received a nuclear reaction from the Perth crowd, which bodes well for Jericho’s future in WWE.

He quit the company in 2018 after feeling undervalued and being robbed of a WrestleMania main event with Kevin Owens. The two were set to duke it out for the Universal title at the grandest stage in 2017.

However, Vince McMahon changed that match to Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg once ‘The Beast’ pulled some strings and demanded to get his lick back on the WCW icon. With McMahon no longer directing the creative, Jericho might feel even more motivated to plot his WWE return, especially after some former names like AJ Lee and CM Punk have done it.
