Travis Kelce is 34 now. His new contract extension means he will play until he is 36. An age when tight ends generally start to feel the effects of playing football after all these years. This indicates that he could probably retire around that time. But his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Chris Jones does not want his superstar tight end to retire before he does so that they win a few more Super Bowls.

Travis Kelce did mention that he was closer to the end of his footballing career than he was towards the beginning. When reporters at the press conference on Wednesday asked Jones if he also saw his end anywhere soon, Jones knew his answer.

Listen, I don't think about it, man. Once you begin to think about things like that, you're getting to feed the mind those types of thoughts. I don't even want my mind to even go that far to the R word. But Trav, he's f**king pretty old. I'm just playing, Trav, I love you. Trav, he's got like four or five more years, and what is he be talking about retirement for? We can't let TK go. It's like, we retire, we've got to retire together. Give me like, at least six more years, then we'll talk about it.
Chris Jones said

In essence, Chris Jones does not want Kelce to retire anytime soon. He wants them both to retire together in about 5 or 6 years.

The defensive tackle and his superstar tight end are part of the core of the Kansas City Chiefs. Together, they have won 3 Super Bowls in the last 5 years, cementing themselves as the cream of the crop.

Jones knows that Kelce is vital if they are to win more Super Bowl titles. Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are the best duo in all of football. If that offense is in place, it allows Jones’ young defense to improve and be dominant by the time the Super Bowl arrives.

The Kansas City Chiefs have worked their way around on how to build the perfect team. With Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce as the main offensive duo, they can avoid spending a lot to get good complimentary players. The same goes for defense. Gone are the days when they would overpay for elite defenders and throttle the progression of the team.

That is what led them to let go of L’Jarius Sneed. Chris Jones is the leader of their defense. Once they locked him up with a monster contract, they did not feel the need to overpay on others. Hence, following the philosophy they’ve mastered over these past few years, they ended up signing good players, but on a budget.

Jones sets the tone for the defense. If the others learn from him and continue to develop under Steve Spagnuolo, the Kansas City Chiefs will be favorites to be the first in history to win three straight Super Bowls.
