In Short
  • Tyreek Hill has been released by the Miami Dolphins to save $22.8 million in cap space.
  • Chris Jones publicly recruited Hill to return to the Kansas City Chiefs after his release.
  • Hill, now a free agent, has expressed regret about leaving the Chiefs and is considering his options.

When Tyreek Hill signed with the Miami Dolphins, his goal was to win a championship with a team other than the Kansas City Chiefs. What he did not envision was how his career would transpire the way it did this past season.

Even though frustrations with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s lackluster performances were already mounting, Hill did not expect his signal-caller to miss him on wide-open looks.

From crashing out on the sidelines to seemingly relaying that he was done with the team, the 31-year-old was visibly frustrated. Then, his season-ending knee injury reopened conversations on whether the Dolphins would keep him.

Combined with his domestic issues and their desire to rebuild under their new regime, headed by Jeff Hafley, the franchise has released Tyreek Hill. When Chris Jones got wind of this news, he wrote this on X

Cheetah, it’s (time emoticon).

This was a direct recruiting pitch from one former Chiefs teammate to the other, as Jones knows there is no place better than to move back home.

It is not as if Hill has not indirectly revealed his regret about leaving the Chiefs over contract issues. But now, as a free agent for the first time in his NFL career, the 8-time Pro Bowler has the chance to make things right.

Tyreek Hill will have options, as every team in the league knows what he brings to the table. It is just that some of them might not want to deal with the baggage that comes along.

Tyreek Hill will be perfect for the Chiefs

As a fifth-round pick, it seems Tyreek Hill did not impress scouts or other NFL executives much. The Chiefs, though, were different, as they knew how to use his talents.

His blazing speed was already well-known, but his ability to separate against the best defensive backs was not something the rest of the NFL was prepared for.

Even now, the best blanket defensive coverages cannot keep tabs on him if he gets his way around them. That alone makes him the perfect fit for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Admittedly, the franchise found ways to keep winning even after their star wide receiver left so that he could bank a lot more green bills than the Chiefs could afford.

But now, as their core has displayed clear signs of aging, they need Tyreek Hill back. Once he returns to his exceptional talent of stretching a defense, the rest of the team will thrive.

The returning Travis Kelce will get room to work, as will Rashee Rice, and the running game. Their collective inability was one of the reasons for their collapse this past season. Hill can change that.

Tyreek Hill teases next chapter

Tyreek Hill probably knows that he will not be able to earn a monster contract the next time he signs with a team. After all, the Miami Dolphins released him to save $22.8 million in cap space.

But the ability to fight for a Super Bowl would be good enough motivation to sign with a contender. With that in mind, the speedster wrote this in his farewell message to his former team.

The Journey Don’t Stop… The Cheetah don’t slow down. Ever. So to everyone wondering what’s next… just wait on it. The Cheetah will be back…Born Again.

Tyreek Hill wrote on Instagram

It seems he is teasing that he will be back at his best. That belief might be a bit of a long shot, considering that such gruesome injuries tend to slow aging players. However, even an 80% version of the Super Bowl LIV champion will be potent, especially in the right system.
