The Vitality T20 Blast got the cricketing world hooked during the last few weeks. A boundary rampage took place recently when the Northamptonshire side took on Hampshire in the Semifinals of the competition.

Australian cricketer Chris Lynn who plays as an overseas player for the Hampshire team tore into Northamptonshire’s Lloyd Pope in the 15th over while chasing a target of 158. The equation had come down to 38 runs off 24 balls and many would suggest that despite it being in the batting side’s favor it might still be a tricky one to get over the line.

However, Lynn had his own plans of killing the chase in that very over. He hit the first ball of the over straight down the ground for six. He had no intentions of stopping right there. He followed that hit with four consecutive slog sweeps over mid-wicket and ended up scoring 30 off the Pope over with the last ball being a rare dot.

His fourth six of the over brought up a special hundred for the Australian, as he became the first player to score a 100 in a knockout match at the T20 blast. Lynn ended with a mammoth score of 108* off just 51 balls. Pope, on the other hand was distraught.

After just conceding 21 in his first three over having taken a wicket, he ended with dismal figures of 1-51 in four overs. Lynn, with that knock powered the Hampshire side into the finals as they comfortably chased down 158 in just 15.3 overs.

Somerset win the T20 Blast for the third time beating Hampshire in a high scoring final

The Vitality T20 Blast came to an end with Somerset being crowned champions for the third time. They were unstoppable right from the start, winning 11 out of their 14 league games to end second in their group. They continued their good form in the knockouts and breezed towards their deserved title.

However, their final match wasn’t the easiest contest with a red-hot Hampshire up against them. Having come from demolishing Northamptonshire in the semifinals, many felt that Hampshire were a force in the final as well. Somerset bowled first but didn’t hit their straps right away.

Toby Albert and with his 85 and James Vince with a quick 52 set the bowling side a steep chase of 195. Somerset lost two wickets in the powerplay while chasing and was on the back foot. Will Smeed though had different ideas. He held one end and smashed 94 off just 58 balls.

A few cameos around him from James Rew, Sean Dickson and Lewis Gregory powered Somerset over the line as they chased the total in 19 overs. Gregory’s knock of 18 runs of just 5 balls killed the chase and smashed any hope Hampshire had of defending 194.

Somerset has dominated the tournament all through and has bagged another T20 Blast. A squad like this will hold them in good stead for the next season as well. The T20 blast with the Hundred has become a huge base for England to produce generational white ball talents. Especially in T20 cricket, England has managed to bat their way out of most situations in recent times and the match against South Africa was a testament to that.

The national side scored 304 runs in 20 overs signaling to many teams around the world that their t20 domestic set up is gearing to produce more such talents. Phil Salt who was the player of the match for his 140 odd in the final is a product of such high-profile tournaments in the country.
