LeBron James and Chris Paul

San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul has been going under the radar this season, which is his 20th in the NBA. Earlier in December 2024, Paul moved up to second place in the NBA all-time rankings, surpassing Jason Kidd with his 12,092nd career assist. Paul is currently just behind Hall of Famer and Utah Jazz star John Stockton on the list with 12,370 assists.

However, this is not the only thing Paul has achieved in the ‘assists sector’ of the sport. He has been making a case that sees him outpace a star like LeBron James. That is the record for the most assists in a player’s 20th season. This is being conquered by Chris Paul. Unbelievably, Kevin Garnett set the assists mark with 77 assists in 2015.

Then, in 2016, the late Kobe Bryant doubled the record with 170 assists. Later, in 2023, James doubled Kobe’s record with 375 assists. Now coming to Paul, with roughly 20 games remaining in 2025, CP3 has 476 assists and is still counting in year 20.

Paul’s 476 assists have already surpassed James’s 375 in only 59 games played this season. With Paul averaging around 8 assists a game, he can take this percentage even further.

CP3 has around 22 games remaining this season. If he were to average 8 assists a game, it would take his tally to 576 assists in his 20th season. That would astronomically surpass James’s 375, outpacing him by more than 50.%

Amazingly, CP3 will have to play seven more campaigns at this rate to overtake Stockton, who has 15,806 assists to CP3’s 12,370.

Interestingly, these numbers in the 20th season showcase that he is overtaking a star like LeBron James in the assists department. In addition, in 59 games this season, Chris Paul has averaged 8.9 points, 7.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds.

However, James is no less. He has no more assists than Paul this season, although it is his 22nd season. However, with 20 games remaining in the ongoing season, it will be interesting to watch the assists battle between James and Paul.

Stephen Curry joined fellow rival Chris Paul in a historic NBA list

Superstar point guard Stephen Curry has improved after the Golden State Warriors signed six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler. Not only that, his performances on March 1 and March 3 have put him into a historic NBA list. Curry recorded a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday after dropping 29 points and 13 assists in Saturday’s defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers.

With this, Curry is now the fourth-oldest star in NBA history to have consecutive games with 20 points and 10 assists. San Antonio Spurs guard Paul is the only other active player on this historic list, with Curry trailing Steve Nash, Chris Paul, and Sam Cassell.

Just like his fellow rival, Paul, Curry, 36, will continue to set records like this one. Given how brilliantly he plays, it is difficult to believe he is even close to retiring.
