Chris Russo, famously known as ‘Mad Dog’ blasted after Stephen A. Smith for naming Derek Jeter as the greatest Yankee of all time. The question of who is the greatest New York Yankee of all time is quite debatable with several controversies and views.

However, when the same question was asked during First Take’s live at the Fanatics Fest in NYC, fans and hosts were surprised with an unexpected answer – Derek Jeter. Seconds after hearing his name, Chris Russo furiously blasted the sports journalist saying, “You should be ashamed of yourself. YOU’RE NUTS!”

While Jeter had a significant impact on the Yankees, his name listed on top of the chart did seem odd and outrageous to many present. Considering how there have been legends in the pinstripes like – Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle.

Lou Gehrig played 2,000 straight games. DIED! DIED at Yankee stadium! And you bring up El Capitan? You should be ashamed of yourself! YOU’RE NUTS! YOU’RE NUTS!

Russo even quoted Gehrig’s iconic farewell, and Gary Cooper being the Yanks legend, “I’M THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE! GARY COOPER! GARY COOPER!”. While Stephen A. Smith’s choice brought him a round of applause from the young crowd, Russo’s argument could also not be disregarded.

To prove his point further, Stephen talked about how Ruth was not truly a Yankee as he also played for Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves (Boston Braves) during his career. On the other hand, Jeter only played for the Yankees.

He even added how Jeter has more World Series championship records than Babe Ruth in a Yankee uniform. Ruth won seven World Series, four of them with the Yankees, while Jeter won five World Series titles at the Bronx. Ending his argument, Stephen shouted to Russo, “You didn’t know that either! Drop mic! Sit down! Sit down!”

Can the current NY Yankees reach playoff series in 2024?

Well, it is quite debatable. While the New York Yankees had a strong start to the season, they fumbled their way between June and July. They lacked power in both offensive and defensive forms, and we compensated to some degree with the addition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. in trade from the Miami Marlins.

Within a few games, Chisholm became the first Yankee to ever record seven HRs within a couple of games. He was warmly welcomed by the NY crowd in Yankee Stadium and even had his own roll call. Unfortunately, he went into 10-day IL for an elbow sprain.

He was recently reinstated for their game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Apart from him, DJ LeMahieu, Anthony Rizzo, Luis Gil, and Clark Schmidt, all listed themselves in IL. While some started others are expected back, the team still needs a power-up to make their playoff dream come true.

The two players who’ve been a dynamic duo for the team till now are – Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. They are enjoying their record season-breaking scores and listing numbers in astonishing fashion. With Chisholm back on the roster, the team and fans are expecting to see the same magic he’s shown earlier in the month.
