Chris Simms puts Cam Ward in the category of Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes

NBC's Chris Simms wants the Titans to take Cam Ward and solve their quarterback issues because the Miami QB reminds him of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

ESPN’s draft expert Mel Kiper made a few changes in his Mock Draft 3.0, picking Miami’s Cam Ward as the favorite for the No. 1 overall pick (to the Tennessee Titans) in the 2024 NFL Draft, a prediction that most analysts agree will happen, including NBC’s Chris Simms. One-half of the Pro Football Talk, Simms went as far as comparing Ward with Super Bowl winners Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.

The 6-foot-2 standout quickly settled into life in Miami after moving from Washington State in 2024. He set a program record of 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns (most in the FBS) compared to just seven interceptions.

Simms covered some of Ward’s games for NBC last year and witnessed his potential firsthand. During the latest installment of Chris Simms Unbuttoned, the former NFL quarterback showered heaps of praise on Ward and didn’t shy away from comparing him with future Hall of Famers.

Cam Ward is in the category of [Aaron] Rodgers and [Patrick Mahomes]. Caleb Williams [Chicago Bears] could do it, Josh Allen [Buffalo Bills] a little bit… Cam Ward can get it out like a shortstop… And he can do it with great force on the ball, and accuracy.

Chris Simms said

Simms believes, out of all the quarterbacks in this year’s draft, Cam Ward is the closest to being tailor-made for the NFL. His pocket presence and arm talent can rival that of a league veteran.

I certainly think Cam Ward is ready for NFL football. I think he can run any system; there’s no doubt about that. [Ward] reads coverages, processes, throws the appropriate footballs all the time.

Mel Kiper posed a similar view while compiling the latest edition of his mock draft after the week of the free agency fiasco. In the previous edition, he pitched Penn State pass rusher Adbul Carter to the Titans, but he dropped down, replaced by Ward.

Cam Ward, with the explosive arm talent, is the reason why I think he goes No. 1 overall for the Tennessee Titans. The arm angles and mobility… He cut down on the sacks this year from what it was at Washington State over a two-year period. Accuracy never waning. He was at 67% at Washington State and 67% at Miami

Dan Orlovsky advised the Titans to draft Cam Ward to solve their quarterback problems

Simms isn’t the only one who wants the Titans to draft Cam Ward. Another former NFL QB turned football analyst, Dan Orlovsky batted for the 23-year-old as the next quarterback of the Titans.

Orlovsky posted a compilation of Ward’s throws and captioned it,

“Cam Ward should be #1 pick That doesn’t mean he is flawless.”

He went on to explain the reason.

Love the talent. Don’t try and do too much. That’s really the flaw of his game, and it doesn’t happen often… [This isn’t] three, four, or five times a game, but there are moments when he’ll make you hold your breath and be like, ‘Are you gonna try to go make that play?’ You want him to walk that line. Because great players do.

Dan Orlovsky said

Orlovsky has been a frequent campaigner for the Titans to select Ward over Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter.

“I think Cam Ward is the No. 1 pick and is clear to be the No. 1 pick… If I was Tennessee, I would not trade out of the pick,” Dan Orlovsky said on the Pat McAfee Show.

The Titans too seemed to be keeping an eye on all the chatter from various analysts. In a recent report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Titans have discussed internally moving on from Will Levis.

“The Titans would like to transition,” someone inside the Titans building told Anderson.

Levis’ time in Tennessee can only be described as lackluster. His highlight reel consists of more funny moments than touchdown passes. The Kentucky product has a 5-16 record in two seasons, throwing 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions along with 17 fumbles and losing possession 10 times after fumbling the ball.
