Despite his endeavors on the football field, second-year quarterback Brock Purdy couldn’t rank among the top 10 quarterbacks in Chris Simms’ list. In fact, he ranked in the 17th position, behind Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.
Over the course of next month, NBC Sports’ Simms would reveal his list of the top 40 quarterbacks in the NFL on his podcast, the Chris Simms Unbuttoned. He surprisingly ranked the San Francisco 49ers, who are the favorite to win the Super Bowl next season, quarterback 17th believing he doesn’t deserve to rank among the top ten.
He had no business winning the Divisional Playoff game this year. None. He should have thrown 4 interceptions at least. I mean he hit Green Bay in the chest like 5 different times. He missed people open everywhere. He wasn’t that much better in the Lions game and of course in the Super Bowl, what I would say to a lot of people, if you had a top 10 quarterback, you won the Super Bowl.Chris Simms said
Simms argued that 49ers fans often claim that the 2023 passer rating leader deserves to be among the top 10 quarterbacks in the league, but if that had been the case, then the franchise would have won a Super Bowl.
Brock Purdy’s offseason transformation with a study in resilience and improvement
The 24-year-old Purdy’s brief time playing in the NFL has been filled with notable events that brought him from “Mr. Irrelevant” to Super Bowl quarterback, after leading the Niners to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs while dominating the entire NFC.
Purdy took the blame for the Super Bowl loss upon his shoulders and spent the offseason studying his past plays on film and then improved his game by playing on the field.
He had to just visualize and think about it and had to wait for that opportunity in training camp. This year right away it's been awesome for him to lead us through the whole offseason, just drill-wise and everything.the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Purdy’s progress (H/T: CBS news)
Last year during this time, Purdy had been in constant rehabilitation after undergoing surgery, but this year he is fortunate to use this time to improve his speed and gameplay. With him in the lead along with the star-studded offense, the 49ers are expected to dominate the NFC ranking as well as the Super Bowl.
