IPL 2021: “There is a real good feel here” – Chris Woakes talks of ‘family-like vibe’ in Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) are an upbeat bunch after their victory in the campaign opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mumbai. After the run to the final last season and a good start to the present one, the side would fancy their chances of getting their hands on the trophy which has been eluding them ever since the tournament began. With a new captain in Rishabh Pant at the helm, DC would certainly hope this is the year.

The victory against CSK showed the strength in the side as they aced a stiff chase of 189 without breaking a sweat. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan made merry as the CSK bowlers looked clueless. With the ball, debutant Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan were excellent with their bowling in the Powerplay as well as at the death as they picked up two wickets apiece on a difficult pitch for the bowlers.

Chris Woakes spoke in a video posted by Delhi Capitals’ official Twitter handle today about playing for the franchise and said, “Yeah, always nice to, I suppose to start with a new team. Obviously, played with a couple of IPL teams but there is a real good feel here, good family sort of vibe going on.”

Speaking about looking ahead, he said, “It is too early, it’s always good to get off to a good start. Winning your first game gives everyone a bit of confidence. You know, everyone is eager to get going, to begin at the start of the IPL but it’s just one performance. We know there’s a lot of games ahead and some good teams to play against. So, we won’t be getting ahead of ourselves but I think everyone in the group is confident and looking forward to the next few games.”

DC take on Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai today.
