On All Elite Wrestling’s latest PPV, Revolution, Christian Cage was announced to be the company’s mystery signing. His move to AEW, really surprised the wrestling world, considering he returned to WWE a few weeks ago.
Christian Cage recently confirmed that he held talks with WWE, before he signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling. WWE was interested in permanently hiring the two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but the deal did not materialize.
Christian recently appeared on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions where he mentioned that he had cordial talks with WWE before joining WWE. He also revealed that a conversation with Jon Moxley helped him in joining AEW.
“No, I would not think that at all, to be honest with you [joining AEW after Royal Rumble return]. It all happened really quick… All the talks that I had were very cordial [with WWE]. [Jon Moxley] talked to me and had his opinions and stuff like that. It made me kind of think, ‘Okay, maybe I am doing myself a disservice if I don’t at least explore all my options at this final stage of my career.’ I ended up having a conversation with Tony and it escalated very quickly and went very fast. Within a week it was a done deal.”

Cage had retired from in-ring competition in 2014 due to multiple concussions. He did appear in an unsanctioned match against Randy Orton on WWE Raw in 2020. But that was a 60-second match and didn’t require Christian to wrestle competitively.
But he made an official return to the ring in 2021 at WWE Royal Rumble. He entered the match at No.24 and lasted 18 minutes before Seth Rollins eliminated him. Christian’s reunion with the eventual winner Edge led to the speculation that they might team up soon. But that possibility has closed with Christian moving to AEW.
