Christian Eriksen set to leave Inter, after CEO confirms exit rumours
Inter Milan CEO, Guiseppe Marotta has confirmed that Christian Eriksen would be allowed a way out of the club. Christian Eriksen joined Inter Milan from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 when he signed a 4 and half year contract with the club.
Eriksen failed to nail down a permanent spot for himself in the starting 11. His appearances were mostly from the bench as the manager did not seem to put much faith in his abilities . He has only started 6 games out of the 37 appearances for the club.
Eriksen demands exit, says Marotta
The Inter Milan chief spoke to Sky Sports Italia, during which he confirmed the Eriksen transfer talks. Marotta asserted that the Dane is on the club’s transfer list in the coming transfer window. Eriksen is not functional to the club’s plans and it would be better for him to find a new club soon, said the club chief.
Christian Eriksen was never a first choice midfielder for Antonio Conte. The player was bought into the club without him asking for it specifically. Eriksen scored just 4 goals in his 37 appearances at the club, a return which shows his ineffectiveness at the club. In his stint with Tottenham, the midfielder had 69 goals in 305 appearances. A stat which clearly shows the disparity in performances.
“It’s just a situation that has developed and it’s only fair he goes where he can play more regularly”, said the Inter chief. This isn’t however the first time that Marotta has spoken on the Eriksen transfer. Marotta, while speaking to DAZN, confirmed that the 28-year-old was asking to be sold.
“Eriksen is on the transferable list,” he told Sky Sports. He has struggled to settle into the squad, he is not functional to the squad. That’s just an objective fact.
“That is not any insult towards his professionalism, there is no punishment, it’s just a situation that has developed and it’s only fair to give him the chance to go where he can play more regularly.”
Team-mate Romelu Lukaku had previously said that language was a barrier for Christian Eriksen. He has urged him to learn Italian to help smooth his transition.
Eriksen was previously linked with a Premier League return. Tottenham and their bitter rivals Arsenal are among those reportedly linked with his services.
