Brandon Aiyuk might be packing his bags after all. After four years with the San Francisco 49ers, the All-Pro wide receiver is garnering some noise from other teams in a possible trade scenario. However, he is still donning the colors of the team that went to the Super Bowl last season. But it seems Christian McCaffrey might have spilled the beans.

The All-Pro running back was speaking with NFL’s Inside Training Camp LIVE at the 49ers training camp on Tuesday. When asked what he thought about the contract situation surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, McCaffrey indirectly gave the media a lot to write on.

That's not part of my job, that's not part of my position. Obviously as a former teammate, or you know, teammate of his in general. Any teammate you have, you love, you respect them. You want the best for them.
Christian McCaffrey said

This statement threw up wildfires on social media the moment he said, ‘Former teammate’. After all, fans of the team know that players and staff know what is happening behind the scenes.

It is not an unknown to anybody associated with football to know that the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk have been at odds regarding his contract. He wants a massive new salary which the 49ers are not willing to give. Therefore, the conversations have extended to trying to trade him away.

Now, if Christian McCaffrey‘s words are to be taken in context, it might be that his fellow teammate is almost out of the door. With trade rumors circling, it might be that all parties involved are just finalizing the details.

Brandon Aiyuk trade talks have one less option

So far, it was reported that the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots were at the forefront of trade talks for the wideout. But now it seems the Patriots have walked away, as reported by Adam Schefter.

After inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk’s availability, the Patriots have decided not to explore any further trade possibilities with the 49ers regarding their standout wide receiver. Patriots are excited about their young receivers and want to focus on them.
Adam Schefter posted on his official X account

This suggested that the New England Patriots want to focus on their young players. That is, rather than doll out over $30 million Brandon Aiyuk wants.

This will come as a blow for the San Francisco 49ers. Had the Patriots agreed to the trade, they could have breathed a sigh of relief and focused on developing Ricky Pearsall. Instead, they could be forced to accept whatever comes their way from the Browns.

Other than those two teams, it was expected that the Washington Commanders would table a bid. But so far, there is no chatter from them. Aiyuk has the last say on where he is ready to go.
