USMNT skipper Christian Pulisic expressed optimism over his team staging a comeback against Uruguay, in the final group stage match at the 2024 Copa America. The USMNT faces a must-win situation, in order to keep their hopes of qualifying to the knock-out alive.
The United States put themselves in a precarious position in the group stage, after a 2-1 loss to Panama at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. They are now second in the group, tied on points with Panama, and face a tough challenge against Uruguay to qualify for the Round of 16. The South American side has been one of the tournament’s most in-form teams, scoring eight goals in just two games against Panama and Bolivia.
Despite the odds being stacked up against the United States, skipper Christian Pulisic expressed the team’s readiness to bounce back from the shocking defeat. The AC Milan star shared on Instagram that while the loss was tough, the team was far from finished. He emphasized the team’s readiness to give their all against Uruguay, highlighting the importance of playing their best and representing the country with pride.
“Not done just yet.”

If they fail to advance to the knockouts, it could mark the end of Gregg Berhalter‘s tenure as USMNT head coach, a position he’s held since 2018. With an uphill task ahead, the final match day promises to be exciting.
Christian Pulisic blames Timothy Weah’s early red card for USMNT’s loss to Panama
USMNT captain Christian Pulisic reacted to Timothy Weah‘s red card, which he felt cost the team against Panama, with the American captain admitting ‘it sucks’.
Weah received a red card within the first 16 minutes for two reckless fouls on Roderick Miller. This put the US team at a significant disadvantage. Despite Folarin Balogun scoring for the US, Panama secured their victory with a goal in the 83rd minute. Pulisic acknowledged the red card as a costly error and a lapse of judgement, adding that Weah understands his mistake and will learn from it.
Timmy knows the mistake he made. That's it. He's going to learn from it. It sucks. It's not the way you want to put your team in that position. It hurts. It's a lapse of judgment.Christian Pulisic on Timothy Weah’s red card (via NY Times)
Moreover, the ex-Chelsea star stressed the team’s need for passion, their best performance, and a winning mentality to overcome such challenges.
