Christian Pulisic slips down the pecking order in Chelsea with clubs like Bayern Munich and Liverpool eyeing him
Christian Pulisic was the marquee signing of Chelsea for the 2019/20 season as Chelsea was hit with a 2 season transfer ban. Eden Hazard had left the same season to Real Madrid and Pulisic’s arrival was meant to ease the void left by him. However the American has been riddled with injuries and has been inconsistent in the times he has played too.
Chelsea have an overload of attackers up front and have to limit themselves
Thomas Tuchel’s formation sees Chelsea play in 3-4-2-1 with Werner/Giroud leading the line and Mount and Ziyech providing the assists. In total, Chelsea have Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic as attackers. The midfield 4 is actually just two defensive midfielders who are flanked by wing-backs (Reece James and Marcos Alonso).
With so many options up front and not everyone getting adequate game time, there will be some disgruntled people. Transfer talk will not go away and therefore it can be said that fringe players will be unsatisfied with not getting enough games. Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi and Abraham could be some of the names as they play substitute roles under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
The situation of Pulisic is especially interesting as he was a former Borussia Dortmund player and was highly respected by Jurgen Klopp. Now Klopp is the manager of Liverpool and a move for him has not been ruled out. Likewise with Bayern Munich, who have been monitoring the situation of the American winger at Chelsea.
