In March of the 2023-24 season, Lakers star Christian Wood suffered a knee injury. Since recovering from the injury, Wood has been out and even undergone an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. The team has felt the impact of his absence, as they lacked great talent behind their main stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Recently, Wood took to his Instagram to announce his return next season to NBA fans and all Lakers supporters.

Christian Wood delivered a stern message through his social media, stating that he is coming back for ‘vengeance’. The message was certainly an answer to the recent criticism faced by the Lakers management for a poor offseason. The Lakers were one of the few teams, who didn’t make many changes to the team this offseason. Potentially the Lakers will be entering the next season with almost the same lineup as last season.

Wood had signed a two-year deal with the Lakers in the 2023-24 season and has a player option in the upcoming season. The 28-year-old star averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists with the Lakers in his last season. Although his numbers weren’t fancy, he certainly provided great support in the front court alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

One of the few significant moves the Lakers made this offseason was acquiring JJ Redick as the new head coach. Fans will be expecting to see Wood thrive under the coaching of JJ Redick as he will be aiming to unlock Wood’s full potential.

The Los Angeles Lakers had one of the quietest offseason

The Lakers struggled last season, barely making the playoffs through the play-in tournament. However, they were eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets for the second consecutive time. The Nuggets exposed the Lakers’ weaknesses, making it clear that no one on the team could consistently provide support besides LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

So, the Lakers entered the offseason desperate of making some changes in their lineup. With big names like Paul George, Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan in the free agency, the Lakers management had their eye on all the big stars. But eventually they lost all of them to other teams, even after LeBron James agreeing to take less money for the betterment of the team.

With a quiet offseason, the Lakers faced a great amount of backlash from the NBA fans. The Lakers certainly needed a big star in the team to complement both James and Davis. With a strong Western Conference, the Lakers will have to push all the gears in order to reach the playoffs next season.
