The 2024 NASCAR Cup season started impressively for Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, who won three races and was super consistent almost throughout the season. But his year came to a disappointing end, as the No:20 team failed to win a race in the post-season and make it into the championship-4.
Alongside Christopher Bell, his then main title rival Kyle Larson failed to make into the finale, and this made NASCAR fans criticize the playoff format. The TRD driver talked about the demands to change the format and pointed out that there should some tweaks made to the system to give the front-runners, and the best cars from the season a bigger buffer to make mistakes.
His teammate Denny Hamlin also shares the same feeling. He pointed out that the top drivers from the regular season deserves an extra buffer to make it through the next rounds as it is really hard to not to get caught up wrecks in the race weeks.
Denny Hamlin wants NASCAR to make regular season valuable
While further talking about the point, the JGR veteran pointed out that almost everyone in the NASCAR garage wants the regular season wants to matter more. Hamlin wants the regular season performance to be substantial part of the championship run and end the streak of champions who just survived the 26 races before playoffs.
The comments from the JGR veteran makes a lot of sense and it is high time for NASCAR to make changes necessary to make the regular season significant. It will be interesting to see what tweaks would make the playoff better.
