The Cincinnati Bengals did the impossible. Before free agency began, public opinion largely believed that the team would fail to keep Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins moving forward. This was because both are elite receivers, paramount to the Bengals’ offense and they sought huge deals, making them the top paid at their position.

It was a tough decision for the Bengals because if the team let either of them walk, it would haunt them. Not only would their fanbase be frustrated, but quarterback Joe Burrow would be disappointed because he has been vocal about wanting his receivers back.

This decision was historic for Cincinnati, a team that seldom goes all-in on wide receivers. Since they made history, it was only fair that they bragged about it. The team’s social media page had a message to all the critics who were convinced that the Bengals would be forced to trade away one of their two-star receivers.

In a video posted on X, the franchise’s social media team kept all the receipts. They compiled a video of tweets from X and statements made by reputed analysts and journalists such as Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Pat McAfee, and Mike Florio who kept questioning the Bengals‘ ability to keep this offensive core together.

At the end of the video, the team featured tweets from journalists reporting that the Bengals had signed both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The final words at the end of the video were “Done Deal” and the caption of the post was “Actions speak louder.”

Despite their past failures, in this case, Cincinnati has earned the right to troll the trolls! They did what everybody was convinced that they couldn’t do and for the next few years, the front office will not need to worry about losing their offensive core.

Joe Burrow’s constant pressuring forced the Bengals to find a way to keep Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins

While the offense will stay together for the foreseeable future, there is a challenge that the Bengals face. How will they improve their defense when most of their capital is invested in the offense? With the departure of Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals’ defense has taken a step backward. It should be safe to assume that the team intends to rely on the NFL Draft to fulfill its defensive requirements.

Cincinnati had no choice but to give in to the requests of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. This was due to the constant pressure that quarterback Burrow was applying on the team. He has been actively vouching for the franchise to retain both their stars since the 2024-25 season began. Burrow is likely to have had conversations with the front office behind the scenes, suggesting he would consider a move if both his receivers were not back in Cincinnati next season.

This forced the Bengals to oblige and since Chase and Higgins share one agent, things were able to move quickly and the team announced both deals together. Both Higgins and Chase had remarkable seasons. The former finished with 911 yards and 10 touchdowns, whereas the latter finished with 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns.

As part of their new contracts, Ja’Marr is set to be paid $161 million, averaging $40.25 million per year, and a $112 million guarantee. Higgins receives a four-year deal worth $115 million and a guarantee of $57.5 million.
