Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini have made another stride forward to their second titles of the season. On Sunday (August 17), in the Cincinnati Open semifinals, Swiatek knocked out Elena Rybakina, while the Italian ace overcame Veronika Kudermetova.

Before the Cincinnati Masters, Iga Swiatek had reached two finals, both on grass. She played her career’s first grass-court final at the Bad Homburg Open but was unsuccessful in beating Jessica Pegula.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, the Pole reached the Wimbledon final and completely demolished Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to end her title drought as well as win her career’s sixth Grand Slam title. After a short break, Swiatek was back in action again- at the Canadian Open, where her run ended when Clara Tauson knocked her out in the fourth round.

When it comes to their head-to-head matchups, Paolini has not yet won a match against the six-time Grand Slam champion. They have so far played five times, and in their last encounter, Swiatek eliminated the 29-year-old from this year’s Bad Homburg Open in the semifinals.

The former World No.1, it seems, has started to enjoy a purple patch, and an in-form Swiatek is nearly invincible. And also because she leads in the head-to-head encounters, she will enter the final as the favorite to win.
