After failing to win the Citi Open and Canadian Open as the top seed, Aryna Sabalenka has arrived in Cincinnati hoping to win her second title this season. The Belarusian will face Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round to kickstart her campaign.

Cocciaretto returned from injury at the Canadian Open after skipping Bad Homburg and Wimbledon. Back to the court, the Italian failed at the first hurdle in Montreal, losing 6-3, 6-2 to World No. 82 Ashlyn Krueger. However, she did well to earn a hard-fought victory over Robin Montgomery 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 27 minutes in the first round of the Cincinnati Open.

Following an encouraging clay season where she got to the quarterfinals of the Morocco Open, the Italian reached the semifinals of the Birmingham Classics, where she lost 6-2, 6-2 to eventual champion Yulia Putintseva. She competed at the Paris Olympics but failed to win a single match in both the singles and doubles.
