Elena Rybakina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Preview

Elena Rybakina has won just one title this season and that came on the clay-court in Strasbourg. She also holds a 41-15 win-loss record on tour and has flourished on the hard courts with a 27-9 record this year. She reached the semi-finals of the Washington Open and Canadian Open before arriving at Cincinnati.

The Kazakhstan star opened her campaign at the Cincinnati Open with a comeback victory against Mexican star Renata Zarazua in 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. She then had another tough battle against Elise Mertens, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 before overcoming Australian Open champion Madison Keys. The 26-year-old stunned World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday (August 15) 6-1, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, has enjoyed a good form on the hard courts this season, winning 26 of her 33 matches on the surface. However, she has only been to two finals this year, winning the Wimbledon Championships and losing to Jessica Pegula in the Bad Homburg Open in June.

She opened her North America hard-court campaign at the Canadian Open, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to Clara Tauson. At Cincinnati, she defeated Anastasia Potapova in the second round and was handed a walkover in the third after Marta Kostyuk withdrew from the tournament. She then defeated Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-4 and Anna Kalinskaya 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round and quarter-finals, respectively.

Elena Rybakina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Prediction

Iga Swiatek winning the Wimbledon Championship has been a huge step forward in her career after hitting some turbulence at the end of 2024 and at the start of the 2025 season. She looks like a fresh player since then and will be seeking to break the curse of not getting past the Cincinnati Open semi-finals in her career.

This is the third time she will reach the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open. She has dropped only 19 games at the tournament this season, and she’s yet to drop a set. The former World No.1 also holds a 5-4 lead against Rybakina in their head-to-head record. Coming into this season, Rybakina led 4-2, but Swiatek has won all three of their meetings this year, including the French Open fourth-round clash.

However, Rybakina holds a 10-2 record since the start of the North American hard-court swing and has beaten two Grand Slam champions en route to the semi-finals in Cincinnati. Despite not being at her best in every game, she has fought hard to win every match. She will be hoping to get the better of Swiatek, who is seeking to win the Cincinnati Open before heading to the US Open.

Match Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
