Harrison Butker’s commencement speech that touched every controversial subject at a Catholic college graduation ended up costing someone’s job. Unfortunately for fans, that someone isn’t the Kansas City Chiefs star kicker, but actually a member of City of Kansas City’s social media team.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas made a shocking announcement on Thursday, revealing the dismissal of a staff member of the social media team, who publicly roasted the three-time Super Bowl champion after his controversial speech at the Benedictine College graduation ceremony.

Just a reminder that Harrison Butker lives in the City of Lee's Summit.

Considering the after-effects of Butker’s speech, as much as many would like to disassociate themselves with the kicker to avoid the assumption of sharing the same ideology, the City of Kansas City believes their employee crossed a line.

Given, that the tweet went up from the City’s official handle, it was deleted shortly and compensated with an apology about the previous post, claiming it was “shared in error.” However, it was a bit too late for amends and the tweet caught the eyes of many who criticized Kansas City for putting the kicker’s safety at risk.

One of whom was Missouri’s Attorney General, Andrew Bailey– the state’s top law enforcement officer, who pledged to take action. However, now that the post has been deleted and the responsible party has been fired, whether Bailey would pursue taking the action further remains a question.

NFL clarifies Harrison Butker’s speech doesn’t represent the league’s views

The Chiefs kicker’s controversial speech even compelled the NFL to respond, who clarified that Butker spoke for no one, but himself and he most certainly was not representing the NFL while delivering the commencement speech. Meanwhile, the Chiefs haven’t made any official statement concerning the speech.

But given the backlash Butker has been receiving, where fans are demanding his dismissal, NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell seemed to have indirectly approved Butker’s speech as they decided to take no action against him, whatsoever.

Goodell also asserted that the NFL comprises more than 3000 players and it’s not possible to expect them to share the same ideology. He gave the difference in opinion the name of diversity, claiming that’s what makes the country a better place to live.
