Despite being just in his second year, CJ Stroud possesses qualities like a veteran and many times, like elite quarterbacks in history. Those qualities were well reflected in his rookie year after he led the Houston Texans to the divisional round in the playoffs and the 3-1 start this season. His demure reaction after a massive throw in week 5 was another example of that.

Facing an elite quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills can be intimidating, but the Texans’ star knows how to handle pressure. Leading the game with 17 points, the Texans haven’t allowed the Bills to put more than three points on the scoreboard till halftime.

Meanwhile, they already have scored two touchdowns– first, a 15-yard score by backup running back Cam Akers, followed by a huge 67-yard throw by quarterback Stroud on a successful connection with Nico Collins. As the camera panned to the 23-year-old signal-caller, he remained sturdy with crossed arms and gave a calm expression.

Judging from his reaction, Stroud was not at all surprised by the successful throw that contributed to Houston’s 17-3 lead at halftime. If the Texans succeeded with a victory in week 5, it would mark their second consecutive feat after their previous streak was broken by a week 3 defeat in the Minnesota Vikings’ hands.

CJ Stroud unfazed by pressure of elite competition against Josh Allen

Winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year and ending the Texans’ playoff drought in his debut season, the standards are already high from the quarterback Stroud. Although the team hasn’t been silent about their aspirations and goals for this season, they are approaching the season calmly, not giving any team the advantage of intimating them.

[Josh Allen is] a heck of a football player, but, of course, yeah, my competitive nature is I want to win my one-on-one. But it’s not an added juice or anything. It’s just another week.

CJ Stroud said when asked about his excitement of facing an elite player like Allen in week 5

In the first half of the game, the Texans’ star quarterback has already recorded 187 yards and a touchdown, meanwhile, the two-time Pro Bowler has barely recorded 56 yards with zero touchdowns. Although there’s still time for the Bills to pull off a comeback, judging from the Texans’ built-up so far, it wouldn’t be easy for Allen to spin around the game.
