WATCH: Claressa Shields ‘brick hands’ makes history as she becomes five-weight world champion

While men's pound-for-pound listing is debatable, Claressa Shields knocks out Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in less than five minutes to prove who is G.O.A.T. in women's boxing. Or as they say, GWOAT.

The GWOAT, two-time undisputed world champion Claressa Shields, stood on point this weekend. She took on WBC heavyweight champ Vanessa LePage-Joanisse, stopping her in Round 2 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The female boxing superstar lived up to her slated clash as she wobbled her multiple times.

In the opening phase, Claressa Shields dictated the pace with some heavy-handed jabs. She rounded her up well, with LePage-Joanisse answering to ‘Brick Hands’ in pockets. Following a hard left hook, Shields finished the round with a flurry. In the second frame, though, Vanessa LePage-Joanisse was on offense as she pushed and ran herself down to the ropes. A quick snap 3-combo and she downed her, and again and again! The knockdowns even have her proclaiming herself ‘brick hands’ yet.

LePage-Joanisse got up, and the match resumed. But after a third and final time, it was over; the official stoppage came 1:09 into the second round. This marks Shields’ first KO/TKO win since 2017. Shields was actually the title challenger, heading to 175 to take on the WBC HW champ. The vacant WBO light heavyweight was also at stake. With undisputed reigns at middleweight and light middleweight, GWOAT is now a five-weight world champion.

This is a woman who’d relentlessly pile the pressure on and bully anybody. This is a woman who could tower over consensus legend Mike Tyson. She’s the one who feels herself to be the prize material, like Floyd Mayweather. So it’s no surprise that the Flint, Michigan native would turn on the heat the way she did; as such, her win has gone quite viral.

Fans react to Claressa Shields’ win

Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields has been there and done them all! Her latest win just adds more and more to the feats. As an amateur, Shields had a stout running of 63-1 with 11 stoppages. Now, Shields (15-0, 3 KOs) took her quest to WBC HW Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse (7-2, 2 KOs) and shook her up with a blistering R2 KO.

Fans went on X to react to the new world championship win. Here’s what fans accordingly think about it all:

There’s obviously who’d troll her feints and strolls and even her raw power. Some said the third wobble wasn’t even a knockdown of sorts, more like she pushed her before. Consequently, others said the right shots went as far as the back of the Canadian’s head.

However, most others have anonymously praised the GWOAT. Her only amateur loss that stood out was to the UK’s Savannah ‘Silent Assassin’ Marshall, 32-7. It was at the AIBA Women’s World Championship prelims in 2012. Ever since, the duo have been the perfect prize fight pairing.

Marshall recently won big at PFL Europe 2 in Newcastle, England, and faced off with Shields yet again. Altogether, fans think that is where ‘T-Rex’ is headed. All in all, with her eventful win, it’s all eyes forward to such a dream clash.
