Barcelona find themselves in a tricky position after Hansi Flick‘s No.1 choice Marc-Andre ter Stegen was forced off the pitch with a knee injury. The club later confirmed that the player has suffered an injury to the patellar tendon of his right knee and will have to undergo surgery. Even though Inaki Pena replaced the German against Villarreal, it is no secret that the club have started looking for a new keeper.

Barcelona employed Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo back in 2014 up until 2016. Currently retired, the 41-year-old was part of Barca’s squad that won two La Ligas and one Champions League title.

He was used by Luis Enrique as the No.1 choice for League games while Ter Stegen was used exclusively in the Champions League. Despite announcing his retirement a month ago, Bravo stated that he’s willing to come out of retirement if the club need him.

According to the La Liga rules, the club is only allowed to sign players that are out of contract at the moment. As things stand, Barcelona are top of La Liga with a 4-point lead.

Former Real Madrid keeper willing to join Barcelona as Marc- Andre Ter Stegen replacement

It is a rarity in football that Real Madrid players make the decision to play for eternal rivals Barcelona or vice versa. Following Ter Stegen’s serious injury, the club are on the lookout for a new keeper as he recovers from the unexpected setback. As per recent reports, Keylor Navas is interested to join the Blaugrana, with his salary expected to not be a problem.

Navas last played for Paris Saint-Germain and is out of contract at the moment. He turned down a ‘big money’ move to the Saudi Pro League to play for Al-Hilal before announcing his departure from the club in May. Being a free agent, the player can join the club on an immediate basis. Navas lost his spot in the PSG squad after the club signed several goalkeepers in previous seasons.

As things stand, Barcelona only have either Pena or 20-year-old Ander Astralaga to fall back on for the rest of the season. Fans are hopeful that the club can make do with Pena or manage to find a worthy replacement ahead of more important games this season. Barcelona play their next game against Getafe before playing against Osasuna.
