This past Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers reached an agreement to re-sign 10-time MLB All-Star Clayton Kershaw. The southpaw will be returning for his 18th season with the team. Now in the twilight of his career, he has relished the chance of spending his entire career with one team.

Kershaw joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008 on a minor-league deal and was added to the active roster. Since then he has been an important part of the team and has earned several accolades including two World Series rings.

As per reports from MLB.com, Kershaw penned down a one-year $7.5 million deal to return to the Dodgers. This came after he declined the club option and became a free agent once again in his career.

However, it was never in doubt that he would join any other franchise. During the Dodgers’ victory parade in November, the veteran pitcher declared himself as a “Dodgers for Life”.

On Thursday at the Spring Training, he would meet with the reporters and spoke about the opportunity to stay with the Dodgers and end his career with them.

I don’t think I put enough merit on it at times, what it means to be able to be in one organization for your entire career. You look at people throughout all of sports that have been able to do that, and it is special, it is. I don’t want to lose sight of that. Getting to be here for my whole career, however long that is, is definitely a goal.

The 36-year-old also provided an update regarding his injury. He revealed that his foot surgery had been hard and walking was difficult. He though is in better shape and hopes to be on the 60-day injured list and return to the mound once the 60 days are complete.

Clayton Kershaw eyeing history in 18th season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025

The Los Angeles Dodgers will enter the 2025 season with the aim of doing something that has not be done in over two decades. They will be hoping to repeat as World Series champions following the top signings they have made this offseason. Clayton Kershaw himself has his sights set on a historic feat.

In his 17-year career so far, Kershaw has a Win-Loss record of 212-94 and has pitched with an ERA of 2.50. While he might not cross the 300 win mark in the future, there is another record with the number 3 that is on his minds.

The 3-time Cy Young Award winner has 2,968 strikeouts in his career. He needs 32 more to reach the 3,000 strikeout club.

If he does so, he will become just the 20th pitcher in MLB history to have 3,000 strikeouts. The last pitcher to join this elite club was Max Scherzer, who accomplished this feat in September 2021.

The one thing that could stop him from achieving this feat is his health. Last year, he started with 2,944 strikeouts. In the 7 games he played, he managed to pick up 22 K’s. If he can stay healthy until the end of the year, he will likely join this exclusive list of players.
