Luka Doncic did not receive a warm welcome at the Intuit Dome on Saturday night. To make matters worse, he was ruled out for the fourth quarter after suffering a left leg contusion as the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a surprising 103-88 loss to their cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers.
It was a loss not many would have expected for the Lakers considering how much of a contrast the seasons have been for the two franchises so far. The loss dropped the Lakers to fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 19-8 record.
Meanwhile, the Clippers jumped up by one spot and sit at 13th place ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings with an abysmal 7-21 record.
In the absence of Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic not returning after suffering an injury, all the offensive burden fell on the shoulders of LeBron James. The 40-year-old has more or less played second or third fiddle behind Doncic and Reaves so far this season.
Nevertheless, it didn’t stop ‘King James’ from putting up a season-high 36 points. Meanwhile, it was Kawhi Leonard who stepped up to the occasion with 32 points and 12 rebounds.
After Doncic’s blockbuster trade to the Lakers, there were a lot of talks and criticism about his weight. During the offseason, the Slovenian shocked the NBA world as he appeared to have lost significant weight and looked ready to lead the Lakers.
Despite a lot of skepticism about the Lakers’ chances of contending for the championship, Doncic has put up MVP-numbers and is currently averaging 34.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.8 assists. A lot of rumors started circulating that Doncic may have used the controversial Ozempic to help him lose weight.
Ozempic is a drug that has been used by several celebrities to help them to lose weight. Clippers fans seated in “The Wall” waved Ozempic when Doncic shot free throws in front of them.

There has been no substance or any evidence to back these accusations on Doncic but the Clippers fans saw it as an opportunity to get into the head of the 26-year-old on Saturday night.

Majority of the fan reactions sympathized with the Slovenian superstar. They pushed back against the Clippers fanbase by pointing out their abysmal record this season.
New goal for the Los Angeles Clippers
It has been a horrid start to the 2025-26 campaign for Clippers head coach Ty Lue and his men despite the likes of Leonard and James Harden putting up impressive numbers. It remains to be seen if their win on Saturday was a one-off or a sign of better things to come.

But all is not lost with still 55 games to go this season. Before taking on the Lakers, the veteran coach had laid out a new goal for his club for the remainder of the campaign.
Unfortunately, we haven’t won the games, we don’t have the record we think we should have right now, but that’s behind us. And so just talking to our guys today, our main focus, our main goal is try to be 35 and 20 the rest of the way, and just keep stacking wins from there.

With several pundits and critics telling the Clippers to shut down their season and hit the reset button in the offseason, it is a good way for the Clippers to get things going as nothing feels better than taking down your inter-city rivals.
