On January 1, Gini Wijnaldum will be allowed to make contact with any club of his choice and get into a pre-contract with them. Liverpool must act quick if they want to keep their reliable midfielder at the club while Wijnaldum ponders on his availability next season. The Dutch midfielder is 30 years of age and his next contract will be the most vital of his career.
Barcelona interest still there as Ronald Koeman appeals
In the summer there were strong rumours that Georginio Wijnaldum was going to Barcelona as Liverpool turned their attention to getting Thiago Alcantara. A move never materialised and Liverpool were the victors of it. An injury crisis plagued Liverpool and Georginio Wijnaldum played every match Liverpool had in almost every competition. Without him, Liverpool would have terribly suffered.
Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that Liverpool had offered him a new contract at the starting of December. It was Gini Wijnaldum who had asked for time to decide on his future and promised to inform the club the decision he made as early as possible. Now in three more days any foreign club can contact him for a pre-contract, including Barcelona.
Much like Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick and David Alaba, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp highly admires Gini Wijnaldum. If offered the chance, Klopp would give a lifetime contract to Wijnaldum. It remains to be seen if Georginio Wijnaldum chooses to stay and fight, or leave to another team for another challenge.
