In November 2023, CM Punk made his electrifying WWE return after almost 10 years at Survivor Series. It was a watershed moment that changed the course of history forever. On the one-year anniversary of the historic event, The Best in the World shared his thoughts regarding how his career has been ever since the return.

Speaking with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Punk stated that 2024 has been one of the best years of his career. He said aside from his tricep injury, he had a blast working with WWE throughout the year. While he stepped away from grading himself, The Second City Saint admitted that returning to WWE in 2023 was one of the best decisions of his career.

Aside from the whole triceps injury and surgery, we really turned chicken s*** into chicken salad with that one. Almost a little bit of a gift. I think people forget that I was hurt because I was such a focal point, just doing what we do, entertaining people.

The former AEW star also acknowledged the fact that 2024 could have been a lot better if he had not sustained the tricep injury. Initially, Punk was scheduled to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL. However, when he was sidelined due to the injury, WWE had to pivot from those plans. This eventually led to the emergence of the Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk saga.

Nonetheless, The Best in the World looks forward to making more impact on the roster in the Netflix era. Currently, the 46-year-old is on a hiatus, recovering from his brutal Hell in a Cell match with The Scottish Warrior. He is expected to be going after the World Heavyweight Championship upon his return following Survivor Series in Canada.

CM Punk expressed a desire to face John Cena in 2025

CM Punk and John Cena are two of the biggest rivals in WWE. Their rivalry has been a game-changer for Punk, leaving a monumental impact on his career. Recently, The Best in the World talked about the retirement tour of The Cenation Leader and expressed a desire to face him.

Speaking with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Punk stated that if he would be able to become a part of Cena’s retirement tour, he would think he had a fortunate career. It was a hint toward an interest in facing Cena in 2025. He named it to be a PLE main-event-level feud that he would like to explore next year.

There’s big match John [Cena] coming right around the corner. Another guy that I don’t want to talk about because he’s going to do his own thing. And if I’m a part of that, what a fortunate career I’ve had.

Moreover, the Chicago-born also named other stars like The Rock and Roman Reigns to be potential opponents in the future. It will be interesting to see if he would be able to get those blockbuster matches in the Netflix era moving forward. With high momentum, Punk could be having another incredible year in 2025.
