There is a lot of hype around WWE Raw moving to Netflix in January 2025. WWE has signed a $5 billion deal with the streaming giant for the rights to broadcast the red brand. This is the first time that the show will move away from a TV channel. However, they have not fully revealed the changes to programming that will come as a result of this deal. According to CM Punk, the differences will not be as massive as fans expect them to be.
Speaking with 103.5 KISSFM, CM Punk said that he does not think that there will be a huge change in the amount of edgy or explicit content shown on TV. Doing so often can reduce its impact and thus should be done carefully. This is highly apparent in the case of AEW, who have often gone overboard with showing edgy content on TV.
WWE started shifting away from such edgy content shortly after the Attitude Era. This gradual change eventually led to the programming going PG-13 in 2008. Although blood and explicit content has made a small comeback in the recent months, the promotion is extremely careful so as to not overdo it in any manner.
Fans can definitely expect one change that would significantly improve the quality of programming. As a result of the Netflix deal, crowd chants involving swear words will no longer be censored on TV. This censorship often interrupted one’s immersion in the show and overall viewing experience.
Another great change coming to the show is that the episodes will no longer be restricted to a specific run time. WWE can run shorter or longer runtimes depending on how much content they have for the episode that week.
CM Punk reveals who he wants to face after his Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood
During the same interview, Punk was asked who he would like to wrestle after he puts an end to his feud with Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood. He said that there were a lot of members on the WWE roster he had already had matches with but that he would like to run it back. These names include Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, and John Cena.
There was also a huge crop of people that the Second City Saint has never interacted with but would love to go toe-to-toe with them. Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser were names that really stuck out to him. Furthermore, he has already expressed interest in challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship, and a match-up with Gunther seems inevitable.
The Raw Superstar has already faced Dominik Mysterio in a few dark matches. The Best in the World thought that he could put on some incredible TV shows with him. He also revealed that he was going to main event a house show in Madison Square Garden, against Damian Priest.
