Ahead of Money in the Bank, there was a lot of discussion regarding the potential return of AJ Lee. Given how personal the CM Punk–Drew McIntyre feud had become, many thought that she would cost The Scottish Warrior at the PLE. However, Punk took matters into his own hands. During the post-show press conference, The Second City Saint addressed the rumors regarding his wife’s return.
First, Punk hilariously said that the question should be directed toward AJ instead of him. Obviously, she wasn’t present in Toronto for the event, with the former WWE Champion confirming that she was at home with their dog. He added that he didn’t want to give false hopes to the WWE Universe. Punk suggested that if AJ wants to return, it’s her decision. However, the Best in the World disclosed that she has been busy with other ventures.
Further, CM Punk revealed that his wife was starting a production company soon and has been writing scripts for movies and television. Despite that, the former AEW wrestler said that he would personally “love” to see the legend back in WWE. Since Punk’s return to the company, fans have continued to clamor to see AJ Lee back inside the squared circle.
She's busy, I'm super proud of her, she's doing her own thing, she's got a - I don't even know if I'm allowed to talk about this stuff - she's got a production company started up, she's writing TV, movies, all kinds of stuff. And laughably I always say I'm a bad husband because I never know what project she's talking about.CM Punk on AJ Lee’s potential return
In the lead-up to Money in the Bank, a string of events led the WWE Universe to believe that she was actually coming back. The likes of Big E and Bayley added fuel to the rumors with their antics on social media. With that said, it looks unlikely that the former Divas Champion will be returning in the immediate future.
CM Punk on course to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam
CM Punk made his presence known at Money in the Bank. After Drew McIntyre won the Money in the Bank briefcase earlier in the night, he cashed in during the World Heavyweight Championship match. Just when he looked close to achieving glory, the Best in the World jumped him from behind.
Punk brutally assaulted his rival at ringside with chair shots and by choking him out with a chord. Damian Priest capitalized on this and once again pinned McIntyre to successfully defend his championship. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins confronted The Second City Saint for interfering and costing him the match as well.
With Punk getting physical again, it seems that he is close to or has already been medically cleared to compete. Therefore, fans will probably get the match they’ve been waiting to see since the start of the year at SummerSlam.
