Shane McMahon was recently spotted having a private meeting with Tony Khan.
CM Punk talks about Shane McMahon meeting Tony Khan (via WW and AEW)
CM Punk is one of the only few wrestlers in the world who have seen both AEW and WWE at an incredible depth. He has also been at the top of the card and world champion for both companies. Due to this, the Best in the World recently spoke about Shane McMahon going to AEW and his private meeting with Tony Khan.
Speaking on Sports Illustrated Media, Punk recently gave an interview to Jimmy Traina. The sports journalist brought up how the wrestling world was losing its mind after the photo of McMahon privately meeting with Khan was leaked. He mentioned that the 45-year-old had a history with both AEW and WWE and wanted his thoughts on the situation.
Punk simply said “pass” in response to this question. Traina asked the former WWE Champion if he would be shocked by Shane McMahon ending up in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The 45-year-old denied this premise. Shane’O’Mac has seemed interested in joining AEW for a few months now. He reached out to some members of their wrestling roster and even had a meeting with Mercedes Mone about the matter.
It seems that there is nothing stopping the 54-year-old from joining AEW. He had no long-term contract with WWE that would stop him from appearing in rival promotions. Furthermore, Tony Khan would surely love to recruit a McMahon onto his roster.
CM Punk claims he is not rooting for AEW to fail
When talking about AEW during the same interview, CM Punk claimed that he had no malignancy towards the company. The Voice of the Voiceless admitted that it was easy for one to wait for something bad to happen to the promotion. The reality of the situation was that he still had a lot of friends who worked there. They were still earning a paycheck through AEW.
Thus, the Raw superstar was not hoping for the company to fail and for many people to lose their jobs as a result. He simply thought that the company was not in the same business that he was. Punk believed that if someone wanted to get paid, they could go over to the promotion and do so. He also talked about the company revealing footage of his backstage brawl from All In.
