It’s no secret that CM Punk is on a well-deserved time off from WWE. However, that doesn’t mean he’s oblivious to what’s going on. Having said that, The Second City Saint gave a wholesome shoutout to the company’s newest signees, the Motor City Machine Guns, while being on commentary at the UFFC 137 event on Friday.

That same night on SmackDown, the MCMG, comprising Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, made their WWE in-ring debut. They breezed past Angel & Berto and the A-Town Down Under to advance to the next round to determine the No. 1 contenders for the WWE tag team titles. The legendary duo is slated to take on a much-fancied pairing of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa next week.

The winners of that match will go on to face Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa for the doubles silverware. And it’s safe to assume that Punk will be rooting for the Machine Guns, and why not? The Best in the World has deep-seated ties with one-half of the three-time TNA tag team champions, Alex Shelley.

Once speaking on Kevin Nash‘s Kliq This podcast, Alex revealed that Punk was the one who got him a job at the Ring of Honor back in 2003. Shelley admitted that not everyone’s had the same relationship as him with the former AEW star. But to him, Punk was always above and beyond awesome, said the MCMG member.

The latter and his partner, Chris Sabin, were operating on a whole different stratosphere during their tenure with Total Non-Stop Action. Being in their early 40s, Shelley and Sabin don’t have anything left to prove to anyone. But WWE is certainly a place they’d love to put in the hard yards yet again.

When will CM Punk return to WWE?

As previously noted, CM Punk is on a WWE hiatus right now. He recently went through a callous Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre that left both superstars battered. While the Scot received 16 staples to his head to close the cut, Punk was fortunate enough to have avoided such a catastrophe.

The Chicagoan isn’t expected to be at Crown Jewel but would be back in time for Survivor Series: WarGames. Punk recently landed a key role in Night Patrol, an indie horror film that also features names like Justin Long, Jermaine Fowler, and RJ Cyler.

Former WWE Champion Dave Bautista recently hailed The Second City Saint for being a great actor. In fact, The Animal named him as someone whom he’d like to act alongside in a movie. However, Dave went to say that it may not happen until Punk’s done wrestling.
