The Royal Rumble weekend is almost here. This Saturday, 30 men and women are going to vie it out for book their respective spots in the main event of WrestleMania 41. As it’s been the case for years, the WWE Universe is most excited about the potential surprise entrants. It seems like CM Punk was about to spoil one.
In a video posted by Jackie Redmond on X, she could be seen asking the WWE Superstars about who they would like to see show up in the Rumble matches, preferably women. When the NHL host inquired Punk, the latter said there’s a big one on his mind. However, he didn’t reveal the name, claiming he’d land in trouble for doing so.
With how badly The Best in the World was grinning, the netizens couldn’t help but believe that he was alluding to his wife, AJ Lee. Every year, when the Royal Rumble rolls around, Lee gets on the trending list, simply due to wrestling peeps fantasizing about her in-ring return. Having retired prematurely in 2015, the former Divas Champion never got to close the book on her own terms.
After Punk came back to WWE in November 2023, the fans hoped they’d get Lee along as well. However, that’s not been the case. There are many women in WWE who are actively pushing for April’s return. Take, for instance, Bayley has already tasked Punk with the onus of luring Lee into making a comeback.
Former NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez is someone who has stated on record that every time she gets to talk about Lee with Punk, The Prodigy tries her best. Will the Black Widow light it up this Saturday at the Lucas Oil Stadium? Time will tell.
What else could the fans expect from this year’s Women’s Royal Rumble match?
As of writing, only 10 women have declared for the Royal Rumble match. Those include Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Iyo Sky, Naomi, Bianca Belair, Nia Jax, Raquel Rodriguez, Ivy Nile, Lyra Valkyria, and Liv Morgan. As one can see, two-thirds of the field is still wide open.
It’ll possibly need a few legends who haven’t been around in a while to fill the void. One of them is Trish Stratus. During WrestleVotes Q&A, it was noted that WWE is bringing the Hall of Famer in for this weekend. However, whether that would result in Stratus’ participation in the Women’s Rumble is not certain.
Michelle McCool is another prospect from the previous era who recently teased making the move. Last but not least, Nikki Garcia, fka Nikki Bella, had been in advanced talks with WWE for an in-ring return. What better way than to pop up on Saturday?
