WWE has nearly finalized the SummerSlam card. Without doubt, one of the hottest rivalries heading into the event is Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk. As it looks, it is highly likely that WWE will book this blockbuster match at the event. To make these assumptions even more profound, the Best in the World has started preparing for an in-ring return at the Performance Center.
According to PWInsider, the Second City Saint has kicked off his training at the WWE Performance Center. He has been working hard to get cleared medically by the WWE doctors to compete at SummerSlam. It needs to be noted that the Straight Edge Superstar had his last match at the Royal Rumble, where he tore his triceps.
Moreover, CM Punk was also seen working out with his wrestling daughters, Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. It seems like it is quite likely that the Best in the World might get the clean chit until SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre failed miserably to lift his suspension on Raw. He also burned the bridges with Adam Pearce, as the two men are now at loggerheads.
After making his return at Survivor Series, the Straight Edge Superstar wrestled a couple of matches at WWE live events. The Scottish Warrior injured the former WWE star at the Royal Rumble, which led to Punk missing out on WrestleMania XL. However, he has been making constant appearances on Raw since then and has been a ‘devil’ for McIntyre.
CM Punk talked about the merger between UFC and WWE
Almost a year ago, WWE went through a historic merger with the UFC. The two sports giants were merged to form TKO under Endeavor. CM Punk, who returned to WWE months after the deal, has been the highlight of WWE. The Second City Saint talked about this earth-shattering deal in a recent video.
In a video posted on the TKO Instagram handle, the Second City Saint said that he was excited for this merger back then, and he still is now. He added that the crossover between the UFC and WWE is more important than ever. The 45-year-old called everyone—brothers and sisters—who are part of the same tree and look forward to providing the best entertainment.
There's a lot of reasons why I think the crossover between UFC and WWE is important. We’re all under the TKO umbrella, but to me, what’s important about this is it brings pro wrestling back to its roots. I think there’s a lot of similarities, there’s a lot of parallels, and at the end of the day, we’re all brothers and sisters. We’re all fighters. So, it’s really exciting for me to see.CM Punk
WWE recently held an NXT PLE at the UFC Apex. It was a sign of more crossovers to come between the UFC and WWE. Moreover, WWE has changed the style of their presentation since the merger. Nonetheless, fans will have to wait and see how this partnership continues to grow under the Endeavor umbrella.
