Tony Khan publicly fired CM Punk following his heated backstage skirmish with Jack Perry at AEW All In last year. The fans were incensed at the move. However, Khan had to make the decision after being recommended to do so by the disciplinary committee he had convened to probe into the matter. Speaking on No-Contest Wrestling‘s debut show, Punk revealed he thought he wouldn’t wrestle again after that.
But then, as everyone saw, The Best in the World did the unthinkable by returning to WWE at Survivor Series after almost a decade. In the aforementioned conversation, Punk revealed that WWE President Nick Khan rang him up in November to discuss whether they’d end up on the same page or not. The initial plan for CM Punk to come back at the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant.
However, since Survivor Series was in his hometown of Chicago, he wanted to gift the WWE Universe one of the best Thanksgiving weekends they’ve had. As Punk has stated in his recent interviews, he didn’t sign the contract until he walked into the gorilla position.

Some of the first faces he saw backstage were Bayley, Stephanie McMahon, and William Regal. Moreover, despite being one of the very few people who’d coordinated with Punk en route to his return, Triple H was freaking out in real-time seeing The Second City Saint in front of him.
It was a mess that night. A man who had burned through many bridges just came back. However, it would’ve never come to fruition if Vince McMahon was still in charge of things in WWE. Punk is the one to say that McMahon’s exit paved the way for his comeback.

Meanwhile, Punk was so gassed that the WWE personnel rushed to endow him with oxygen. Last night on Raw, a battered Punk opened the show and addressed the fans from the stage itself as he could barely walk.
The Voice of the Voiceless said he was unsure of what the future holds for him. As he was walking back, Seth Rollins came out, and the two had a staredown. The Visionary asked his arch-nemesis to heal up soon so that he could send him back to retirement.
