Being a staunch supporter of the Chicago Bulls, CM Punk knows a thing or two about the NBA. As he gears up for his in-ring return at this weekend’s SummerSlam PLE, the Second City Saint stopped by ESPN’s First Take. On the show, he was asked to pick between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. One would believe that’s kind of a tantalizing curveball. But not for Punk.
Without mincing his words, CM Punk outright named Michael Jordan. He put MJ in the same light as Wayne Gretzky, a former four-time Stanley Cup winner. Punk said that when one thinks of ice hockey, Gretzky pops up in the head; similarly, that’s the case with Jordan in the NBA. The WWE Superstar called Kobe Bryant a closer comparison to His Airness than King James. At the end, the former AEW star admitted that it’s quite subjective.
A few months ago, The Athletic collected the data of 133 NBA players who’d voted to set the record straight about who’s the NBA GOAT. Jordan edged out LeBron James, as the former received 45.9% of the votes as opposed to the latter’s 42.1%. Kobe Bryant followed them to take the third spot. However, as mentioned above, Punk would like to swap the top three, barring MJ’s pole position.
No, no contest come on. It's MJ? Yeah, 100 percent. I think MJ's possibly, he's up there with Gretzsky, is like the guy when you mention a sport. When you mention Basketball, you mention Michael Jordan.CM Punk on ESPN’S First Take
After he held his own, The Best in the World was asked to name the five greatest pro wrestlers to ever grace the squared circle. He went old school. Those who made the cut in his list include Terry Funk, Harley Race, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and Eddie Guerrero. He had a hard time choosing between Ricky Steamboat and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Many fans were surprised to see that he didn’t mention Bret Hart in there.
CM Punk’s credibility will be on the line at SummerSlam
This week on Raw, Seth Rollins mediated a segment between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. The Visionary, being the special guest referee for their match at SummerSlam, had to dispense the rules and regulations for the highly anticipated clash.
Seth ended up saying there wouldn’t be any except for Punk, and McIntyre will act as per his instructions this weekend. There were quite a few sick verbal exchanges among those men. Punk said that both Rollins and Drew have a PDS, i.e., the Punk Derangement Syndrome.
The Scot also vowed to give The Straight Edge Superstar the beating of his lifetime and said he wouldn’t stop until his heart does. At last, McIntyre flaunted that bracelet of Punk, which has his family’s name on it and means the world to him.
