In massive news for the WWE 2K enthusiasts, CM Punk has been secured as the lead star for the game’s Showcase mode. As reported by Insider Gaming, the World Heavyweight Champion will not only narrate the showcase, but it will also feature three sections of matches.

This will include some of Punk’s favorite WWE matches, a “What If?” element diving into his career had he not left the company in 2014, and lastly, the fantasy-booked dream matches that couldn’t happen.

Since making his return to WWE in November 2023, the ‘Best in the World’ has been featured in WWE 2K24 as DLC before becoming a base roster member for its 2025 version. Punk leading the showcase version of the said video game isn’t something new for him. He has done it previously in the WWE 2K15 edition.

It has also sparked widespread speculation among the fans regarding the ‘Straight Edge Superstar’ also being announced as the cover star for 2K26. Punk, who’s pushing 48, is having the time of his career at the moment. He recently overcame a tenacious Bron Breakker on the 1/5 edition of Raw in Brooklyn. Next Monday in Belfast, the ‘Second City Saint’ will put his world title on the line against Irishman Finn Balor.

It stemmed from ‘The Prince’ stepping up to Punk on this week’s Raw by reminding the champ that he had named the Judgment Day member as a potential opponent in his first promo after winning the World Heavyweight title at Saturday Night’s Main Event. While it appears like Punk has a lot of gas left in the tank, the Chicago-born wrestler recently opened up about his retirement plans.

Speaking to Cinema Blend, ‘The Second City Saint’ quipped that he’d have called anyone crazy if they had told him at 15 years old that he would be wrestling beyond 40. But given how old he is now, he doesn’t feel old at all, affirmed Punk.

The latter cited the likes of Terry Funk and Ric Flair as people who continued wrestling way beyond a widely accepted age limit. Punk noted that some luchadores are still going at it in their 70s. But on a personal level, the ‘Best in the World’ said that he should gracefully hang up his boots after turning 50.

CM Punk recalls bringing Jon Bernthal backstage to convey his fandom to The Punisher star

CM Punk recently shared a heartfelt backstage story that showed a more personal side of him. While being at SNME for John Cena’s final match, ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ spotted The Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal sitting in the front row.

In an interview with ComicBook, Punk revealed doing something he wouldn’t normally do. And that was asking someone backstage to bring Bernthal behind the curtain for a quick conversation.

When the actor arrived, Punk immediately apologized for pulling him away from the show. ‘The Cookie Master’ then explained that he was a lifelong comic book fan who had watched every version of The Punisher over the years. In Punk’s view, many of his portrayals of the character “failed spectacularly” while trying to audition for the big screen or even the small one.

CM Punk told Jon Bernthal that the latter truly understood the character and brought a level of intensity and realism that did The Punisher justice. Bernthal responded with genuine appreciation after hearing the former AEW star speak highly of him. ‘The Straight Edge Superstar’ pulled off that gesture, believing that it’s important to let people know when their work truly meant something.
