On December 26, WWE will host a special live event at Madison Square Garden. Despite being a house show, the company usually stacks these yearly shows with huge matches. This year, the MSG fans are in for a treat as CM Punk will square off in a first-time match. The Second City Saint takes on Ludwig Kaiser on Thursday in his return to the venue.
A year ago, Punk competed in his first WWE match in nearly a decade at the famous venue. The former WWE Champion faced Dominik Mysterio, defeating him in his comeback bout. Once again, Punk has seemingly chosen an opponent who has had a breakout year in Kaiser. The Imperium member started his singles run after betraying and kicking Giovanni Vinci out of the faction.
Kaiser proved his doubters wrong, especially those who labeled him as Gunther‘s lackey. The 34-year-old star fought against the likes of Randy Orton and Sami Zayn, even gaining a win against Sheamus. Furthermore, he stood toe-to-toe with The Celtic Warrior and Bron Breakker in a three-way Intercontinental Title feud. Needless to say, Kaiser has earned the praise from fans and, by the looks of it, his colleagues.

As for CM Punk, he also had his fair share of critics to silence in 2024. After suffering an unfortunate injury at the Royal Rumble, Punk came back strongly in the second half of the year. In one of the most grotesque matches in recent history, The Best in the World defeated his rival, Drew McIntyre. Since then, Punk has also gone on to compete inside WarGames and is set for a marquee bout at the upcoming Netflix Premiere.

Since CM Punk’s return to WWE, fans have yearned for him to engage in fresh feuds. Hence, many fans are delighted to see him square off against Ludwig Kaiser. In fact, one fan claimed that this was a PLE-caliber match. Others began speculating whether this was a hint at Punk perhaps feuding with Gunther soon.
The Second City Saint will reportedly be facing Gunther days after the MSG show in Chicago. Nonetheless, fans requested the WWE Vault YouTube channel to upload the match against Kaiser. Others suggested that it was Punk who specifically asked for the Imperium member.

Another user claimed that the former WWE Champion should not be wrestling at a house show before 2025, expressing concern about his injury issues. Fans are hoping that this will not be the only time these two square off against each other, and demanded another match on television.
