Aryna Sabalenka has had a tough couple of months. After a premature end at the Indian Wells, the Belarusian was welcomed to Miami with shocking news. It was the death of her ex-boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov.
Big news for the tennis world and Sabalenka, who lost a tough companion at a crucial time. People thought that they wouldn’t be able to see the Belarusian play in Miami, but surprisingly, she made an appearance and decided to play a very quiet Miami Open. The dark time has now probably passed, and Sabalenka is slowly but surely getting back to being her best.
Her coach, Anton Dubrov, shed light on Sabalenka’s journey from the time she lost her ex-boyfriend. He claimed that playing tennis helped his player the most as she went to the field and played with every kind of emotion running inside of her.
It wasn’t easy because she went through something very hard. First of all, you can't separate it from tennis, but at the same time, the idea was to try to leave that aside and focus on tennis, which could act as a treatment. When you go out into the field and you know what to do, even if you're frustrated, angry, it can give you a healing feeling. Being on the field was like medicine. Being in movement heals. No matter what you're going through in life, the idea is to do simple things, to move. Hiking, cycling, swimming…Anton Dubrov said to L’Equipe
Pushing through all the hurt, Sabalenka made it to yet another Masters 1000 finals and faced Iga Swiatek for the title. This was her shot at a third Madrid Open title and a second consecutive one. However, she failed in the final hurdle.
Aryna Sabalenka is not at 100% reckons coach Anton Dubrov
After some amazing matches at the Mutua Madrid Open, Belarus pro Aryna Sabalenka found herself in the finals against Iga Swiatek. In addition to dealing with a tough loss, Belarusian has been making a good effort to play her best tennis.
Her coach, on the other hand, believes that she is not yet 100% but is completely focused on what she has to do. Moreover, he assured the fans that the staff, also, they are doing their best while dealing with her.
Within the staff, we try to support her and do our best to have the best approach with her, so that she is focused on what she has to do. She's not 100% yet. But she's already doing much better.Anton Dubrov added
Now, Sabalenka has changed her form a bit. After a great win against Elena Rybakina, the Belarusian fought as hard as she could for the win. Despite a loss, Sabalenka will be more confident going into future tournaments.
