The 2022 season gave a lot of remarkable moments. But the biggest one, off the court, would certainly be the start of ‘Bromance’ between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios. The two players were always at loggerheads prior to the 2022 season due to differences in opinion and also the trophy cabinet if one could say.

But following the Serb’s controversial expulsion from Australia, Kyrgios came out to support him publicly. The Aussie mercurial reminded his compatriots of the help Djokovic had provided over the years and being their most successful champion in history. While his opinion was discarded by the officials, it sure struck a chord between the two players who rekindled their friendship at the 2022 Wimbledon.

Being the finalists at the Championships last year, the two even engaged in social media banter. The two even played against each other in a practice session at this year’s Australian Open before Kyrgios had to withdraw from the event. They further planned to pair up for doubles had Djokovic been allowed in the USA but the ruling didn’t come and Kyrgios was forced to go for surgery missing the events himself.

With Nole scripting history at the French Open on Sunday, the Aussie once again took to social media to poke fun at his new friend. Sharing an old photo of them from a clay court event, Kyrgios wrote, “Congratulations @djokernole from you asking me advice on the clay to again winning the French open. Proud of you mate, I’m here anytime, love coach kygs.”

The knee injury picked by Nick Kyrgios at the fag end of the 2022 season has kept him out so far. While he has resumed training, he chose to avoid the clay season. With the surface being extra physical than the rest and not Kyrgios’ preferred one, he chose to skip another few weeks on the Tour. He will however return for a full grass season by the looks of it.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic has almost confirmed a short grass season. He is likely to play only the 2023 Wimbledon where he will be the four-time defending champion. The Championships will however see the two friends catch up once again having made their amends same time last year.

The World No. 1 had not made any comment on Kyrgios’ special wish but will certainly reply in due time. For now, he can relax and soak in the feeling of being the man with most singles Major and etching his name in history once again with a plethora of feats achieved in Paris.
