American tennis ace Coco Gauff has no hesitation in admitting her admiration of rival Iga Swiatek, who has gotten the best out of her every time they have faced each other. She hailed the Pole’s winning mentality and praised Ons Jabeur for her niceness.

In fact, Gauff had special words of praise for Jabeur, recalling how the Tunisian made her feel at home when she first entered the WTA tour. She stated that Jabeur was one of the first people who was nice to her and made her feel welcomed.

Obviously, Iga is somebody who has a great mentality & wins a lot. Ons Jabeur, I think is the nicest person and such a competitor on and off the court. Ons is somebody who was one of the first players to be super nice to me when I was 15, coming to the tour, I was scared meeting people that you just saw on TV. She was one of the players who was really nice, so especially her.

While Jabeur has been nice and welcoming towards Gauff, the American has not been so kind on the court against the Tunisian. She has won six of the eight encounters between them. Most recently, she beat Jabeur in the French Open quarterfinals.

Coco Gauff eyes redemption at 2024 Wimbledon Championships

Coco Gauff made history at the US Open last year when she beat Aryna Sabalenka to the title at Flushing Meadows. Clinching her maiden Grand Slam title helped put behind her dismal performance at the Wimbledon Championships.

Gauff bowed out of the Championships in 2023 in the very first round after losing to Sofia Kenin. The 20-year-old, who is set to kickstart her SW19 campaign this year against compatriot Caroline Doelhide, stated that she found it hard to come to terms with her performance last season.

That was a tough moment for me. I think the first two, three weeks after that, I was really in a dark place. It was tough for me to realise I have so much time. When that happens you just feel the weight of everything on you. But I think I've just grown a lot. I'm glad I used that moment to just strive to get better. I still know I'm nowhere near where I can be.
Coco Gauff said in her pre-tournament press conference

Having matured as a person and a player since her Wimbledon debacle, Gauff will be hoping to do better this season. The second seed is set to be in action against Doelhide on Monday (July 1).
