Coco Gauff is currently in Riyadh competing in the WTA Finals. However, she has already voted in the US presidential election being fought by Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Gauff has stated that America is in a tough time right now and urged her compatriots to exercise their right to vote.

Gauff has been vocal about the issues she cares about. Be it the debate around the decision to host the WTA Finals in Riyadh or recognizing the power of voting, she has always participated in important conversations.

I voted. I posted content trying to encourage people to vote. It’s definitely on my mind. It’s a tough time for our country, a crucial time for our country right now. All I can do is encourage people, especially young people, to vote and use their voices. Especially in my generation, there are a lot of people who don’t see the power of voting.

Coco Gauff told reporters in Riyadh

Although Gauff has cast her vote in local elections before, it’s the first time she voted in a presidential election. She also stated that the results of the elections won’t ‘affect’ her during her matches in Riyadh.

Gauff parted ways with Brad Gilbert and hired Matt Daly after a trophyless run this season. Ahead of the WTA Finals, when asked about the coaching changes, Gauff admitted that she wanted someone to help improve her serve.

After beating compatriot Pegula in her first group-stage match, Gauff’s next target is to defeat World No.2 Iga Swiatek, who won her tournament opener against Barbora Krejcikova in three sets. Gauff trails 1-11 in the head-to-head against the Pole.

The match in Riyadh will be their third meeting in 2024 after the Italian Open and French Open. Gauff has never reached the summit clash of the WTA Finals, with her semifinal finish last year being her best result there.
