Coco Gauff denies receiving valuable advice from Serena Williams to improve her performance in the Indian Wells

Coco Gauff idolizes 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. She has learnt a lot from her. However, as the 18 year old arrives to play in the prestigious Indian Wells Open, she did not take any advice from the former World No.1.
The current World No. 6 has made some giant strides last year. She reached the final of the French Open in both singles and doubles discipline. This year she has already won one WTA 250 title, i.e., the ASB Classic tournament. Hence, she is confident that she can shine in this tournament.
“I don’t really speak to Serena that much unless I see her in person. [We’re] not really like in contact on messaging or phone calls or anything like that. I haven’t seen her in person since US Open, so yeah I haven’t gotten anything [advice] from her,” she said in the pre-tournament press-conference.
Coco Gauff is one of the strongest contenders to win this tournament this time around in both the singles and doubles disciplines. Hence, there are lot of expectations from tennis fans for a remarkable performance from her this year at this competition. However, she must also be vary of her competition and advice from Serena Williams could prove valuable for the teenage sensation and can be the difference between win and loss for her.

Coco Gauff’s chances at the Indian Wells Open 2023

The American made her debut in this WTA Masters tournament in 2022. However, Coco Gauff could not advance beyond second-round. She lost to Simona Halep. She also participated in the doubles discipline here with compatriot Caty McNally but the all-American pair lost to Japanese-American pair of Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara in the quarter-final round.
The current World No.6 is this time too will be participating in both the singles and doubles disciplines. She has started her journey in the tournament by beating Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-4. However, as the tournament will progress, she will have to battle it out to make deeper in roads into the tournament. She will have to compete against the likes of Iga Swiatek, Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur amongst others.
In the doubles discipline, she will pair with Jessica Pegula. She is currently ranked World No. 2 in the WTA doubles rankings. The all-American pair will start their journey in this tournament by playing against all-Czech pair of Marketa Vondrousova and Miriam Kolodziejova.
