Coco Gauff has reflected on the ups and downs of her tennis career so far. Although she joined the tour at just 15, she has now spent six years on the WTA Tour and has achieved many significant milestones.
However, the World No. 3 believes she still has a lot left to accomplish. She is proud of her achievements so far and returns to Miami with hopes of winning a WTA Masters 1000 title.
I’m very happy with my career. I’m a very future-oriented and goal-oriented person. There are many things I want to do. I would say I’m happy with what I’ve done, but not satisfied.
Coco Gauff said in her pre-tournament press conference
Gauff reached the pinnacle of the sport at the 2023 US Open, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final to secure her first Grand Slam title. However, that remains the biggest highlight of her career so far.
She had a disappointing run at the Paris Olympics, ending the campaign without a medal despite being nominated as the country’s flag bearer. However, she finished the season strong by winning the WTA Finals title.
Coco Gauff dissects struggles before Miami Open
The world’s top tennis players have gathered in Miami Gardens for the Miami Open. Among them is Coco Gauff, a Delray Beach native. She is looking to improve on last year’s performance after losing in the Round of 16 in 2024.

I’m obviously not happy with those past results, but it’s one of those things that, in the history of my career, I’ve had ups and downs. I still feel like I have a couple more years … (to reach) that point where every week is a great week, I guess.
Coco Gauff added
Gauff has made several changes to her game. After the 2023 US Open, she adjusted her coaching team. She also worked on her serve, focusing on improving her second serve to reduce double faults.
Gauff became famous at 15 when she qualified for Wimbledon in 2019. She impressed the world by defeating seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams. She reached the fourth round in that tournament.
Her backhand has always been her strongest weapon. However, her forehand is the shot that opponents often target. She continues to work on improving that part of her game.
Crunch time for Coco Gauff in the WTA Race to Riyadh
American star Coco Gauff is ranked No. 3 in the official WTA Rankings, but she sits at No. 12 in the Live Race for the WTA Finals. She started the year well by leading the U.S. to the United Cup final. However, she lost in the Australian Open quarter-finals and had early exits in the Middle East. She also fell in the third round at Indian Wells.

The 2025 WTA Finals will take place in Saudi Arabia in November, with eight players competing for the biggest prize in women’s tennis. The top seven in the Race will qualify, while one spot is reserved for a Grand Slam winner ranked between No. 8 and No. 20. If that player is already in the top seven, the No. 8-ranked player will take the final spot. Two alternates, ranked No. 9 and No. 10, will be on standby in case of withdrawals.
Madison Keys currently leads the Race after winning the Australian Open, earning 2,000 points. She also won the Adelaide International and reached the Indian Wells semifinals, bringing her total to 2,944 points. She holds a 364-point lead over Aryna Sabalenka, while Indian Wells champion Mirra Andreeva sits in third with 2,500 points.
Gauff still has time to climb the rankings, as the season is only three months in. There are still three Grand Slams and seven WTA 1000 tournaments left. Strong performances in these events could help her secure a spot at the WTA Finals.
