Coco Gauff discussed the much-hyped rise of Mirra Andreeva ahead of her return to the Miami Open. The teenage Russian player has become a major talking point on the tennis circuit after her win over Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final.

Gauff, who also reached the spotlight at a young age, drew comparisons between their early careers. While crediting Andreeva, she also reminded the world that even after six years on the tour, she is still only 21.

Since I started so young, I think people forget my age, so maybe I don’t get the same attention as others on the circuit. I still feel young. Honestly, I think on the circuit I feel middle-aged. I’ve been a pro for six years, but I’m still 21, which also means I make mistakes like a 21-year-old player. I should be there at 21, but most of the girls doing well right now and striving are older.

Gauff and Andreeva have their own separate career projections. However, Gauff, with more years on the tour, has more achievements to her credit. The American won the 2023 US Open and the 2024 WTA Finals title.

On the other hand, Andreeva has now risen into the top 10. Due to her age, she has been compared to Maria Sharapova, who won Wimbledon at the age of 17.

To celebrate her birthday, Gauff and New Balance released a special shoe. The “Coco Delray” shoe is inspired by Delray Beach, where she grew up and trained. It will be available for both men and women starting April 9 for $109.99.

New Balance shared the news with a special video on Twitter. The video is narrated by Gauffโ€™s grandmother, a retired teacher known for her community work. She has been featured on WPTV for her activism.

Gauff will play her first match at the Miami Open on Friday. She hopes to improve on last yearโ€™s Round of 16 exit. Last week, she also lost in the Round of 16 at Indian Wells, falling in three sets to Belinda Bencic.

Coco Gauff’s draw for Miami Open

American star Coco Gauff is hoping to regain her early-season form. She started the year strong with a 9-0 record but has lost three of her last five matches. She has not won a title since the first week of 2025. Her goal at the Miami Open is to go deep in the tournament.

Gauff has never made it past the fourth round in Miami. As the No. 3 seed, she is expected to be a strong contender. However, she faces a tough start. Her first match will be against a former Grand Slam champion, either Petra Kvitova or Sofia Kenin.

If she advances, Maria Sakkari will be her opponent in the Round of 32. The competition will get tougher in the next rounds, with Ekaterina Alexandrova or Beatriz Haddad Maia posing a big challenge. In the quarter-finals, she could face Jasmine Paolini or Daria Kasatkina.

Her biggest test may come against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who recently lost the Indian Wells final. Elena Rybakina and Qinwen Zheng are also possible opponents. If she reaches the final, she may have to face Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, or Madison Keys. An all-American final against Keys would be exciting, especially since Keys once called Gauff the biggest trash talker on the WTA.
