Coco Gauff had a season to remember in 2024, despite not being able to win any Grand Slam title. The American earned $30.4 million this season through endorsement and prize money, topping the highest paid female athletes of the year. She’s currently full of confidence heading into the 2025 Australian Open.

Gauff began the year winning just one singles title in eight months. Indeed, the 20-year-old struggled with form, particularly during the North American swing. There, she failed to defend any title. But she had a good bounce back in October at the China Open in Beijing, claiming the WTA 1000 title.

She then continued with her form by winning the prestigious season-ending WTA Finals in Riyadh. Gauff has already revealed some of her preparation routine ahead of next season which has excited her fans. However, she’s also using her off-season time to focus on her goals for the 2025 season, one of which is the Australian Open.

The former US Open champion is set to make a debut at the United Cup ahead of the Melbourne Grand Slam. She revealed during a recent interview that she feels confident about winning her second career Grand Slam in January.

Honestly, in any slam, there’s always one match that I feel like you don’t play as well, but definitely having that experience over the end of the year gives me a lot of confidence. Doing everything I can to prepare myself and doing everything I can in the moment to win, but maybe not putting so much weight on wins and losses, which is something I’ve done in the past. I always play my best tennis when I least expect to win a tournament; WTA Finals, I definitely wouldn’t have expected that and then same with the US Open win.

Top ATP player Taylor Fritz will join Gauff at the United Cup, which is poised to be held in Perth and Sydney from Friday, 27 December, until January 5.

Coco Gauff optimistic about playing her best tennis in the 2025 season

Despite Coco Gauff’s glorious season-ending, the American struggled with some aspects of her game. She was heavily criticized for her poor serves, which led to losses to several players below the Top 10. And that was part of the reason she parted ways with Brad Gilbert and partnered with Matt Daly as her new coach.

During the aforementioned interview, she revealed that the improvement she made in some aspects of her game at the WTA Finals gives her confidence that she’s getting closer to playing her best tennis.

I’ve always said the US Open, even though it’s my biggest win in my career, I don’t feel like I was playing my best tennis. The WTA finals, I felt like there was times I was playing my best tennis, maybe not all throughout the tournament. I’m getting closer and closer to feeling I’m playing my best tennis throughout the whole week.
