On Rennae Stubbs‘ podcast, she and co-host Caitlin Thompson discussed Coco Gauff‘s outfit for the WTA Finals. Gauff had a successful campaign in Riyadh as she clinched her maiden trophy in the tournament with a three-set win over Qinwen Zheng.
But along with her game, her purple New Balance kit also garnered a bit of attention. Thompson was impressed by it, but she also criticized New Balance for the outfits it has prepared for other tournaments. While Stubbs found Gauff’s outfits ‘so cool’, Thompson thinks they are extremely revealing.
In spite of the criticism, Gauff doesn’t have any problem with her sponsor. New Balance has been working with Gauff since she was 14. Gauff has also launched her own signature shoes (CG1 and CG2).
Justine Henin reveals what quality would take Coco Gauff far in her career
After winning the title, Coco Gauff mocked her critics for doubting her. Despite the year-end trophy, Gauff struggled in Grand Slam events, and it gave her doubters a chance to criticize her. She reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the French Open but got knocked out of the Wimbledon and US Open after losing in the fourth round.
She then split with coach Brad Gilbert and started working with Matt Daly and since that partnership, she ended a long trophyless summer and lifted two titles. Seven-time Grand Slam champion Justine Henin lauded Gauff and named one quality that would help the 20-year-old in the long run.
At the WTA Finals, en route to her win in the decider, Gauff also defeated Iga Swiatek in the group stage and knocked out World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Gauff will end the season as World No. 3 for the second time on the trot.
