Coco Gauff praised Naomi Osaka for displaying a high-level tennis in her second-round match against Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros. Gauff said it’s good for women players when someone like Osaka gets back to form and gives tough competition after becoming mother.

Osaka faced the World No. 1 on May 29th, making the pole go deep in the competition right from the first set. Swiatek fought hard to take the first set 7-6(7-1) but had no answer to the Japanese’s powerful strokes in the second set, as she could win just one game.

I always root for her, and I think also coming back from motherhood and for her to put up a level like that against Iga is great. It's good for women's tennis to see, and good for just women in general to see that you can come back and be at the high level and take the World No. 1 to the brink. Also, good on Iga for getting through that match.

The four-time Grand Slam champion from Poland then continued her winning ways by easily beating Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-2, to set herself up for a fourth-round clash against Anastasia Potapova

Coco Gauff is aiming to emulate her 2022 campaign in the French capital, though she wants to take home the trophy this time. In 2022, she reached the final but faced Iga Swiatek who easily defeated her in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to bag her second Roland Garros title.

They have previously met two times, in the 2022 Guadalajara and 2024 Dubai Open, with the American winning both matches. In her previous two rounds, Gauff met Julia Avdeeva and Tamara Zidaneek, beating them with scores of 6-1, 6-1, and 6-3, 6-4 respectively.
