Carlos Alcaraz emerged as the new champion in Beijing when he defeated Jannik Sinner in three sets to claim his first China Open on Wednesday (October 2). Amid praise from all corners, Coco Gauff also dropped a message for the young Spaniard.
The final against Sinner was what one expected to be, a blockbuster clash with no one knowing beforehand who would come out on top. A pair of tie-breaks were played and Alcaraz prevailed in the deciding set tie-break when he went on to win seven points on the trot despite being down initially 0-3.
Before his opening match in Beijing, Alcaraz and Gauff made a trip to the Forbidden City with both of them wearing Hanfu, a traditional Chinese attire. After Alcaraz won the title, Gauff simply dropped, “Congratulations,” in the comment section of Alcaraz’s post celebrating the win.

Although Alcaraz had a successful campaign, Gauff defeated Yuliia Starodubtseva in the quarterfinals on Thursday. She will be locking horns with Paula Badosa in the semifinals on Friday.
Carlos Alcaraz again complains of a busy schedule
Carlos Alcaraz‘s next target is to win the Shanghai Masters. He is the third seed in the tournament and will be up against Shang Juncheng less than 48 hours after winning the China Open.
Immediately after his win in Beijing, Alcaraz flew to Shanghai and reached at 4 am local time. When asked about how he was feeling, he admitted to not sleeping much.
The four-time Major winner added that after finishing the match around 9 pm, he did not have much time to do anything else. Alcaraz revealed that before the final, he packed all his bags and went straight to the airport afterward.
Alcaraz met Juncheng once, in this year’s Australian Open. He holds a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head after Juncheng retired at the start of the third set in their Round of 32 clash in Melbourne.
